Two explosions in Mosul: tens killed, many more injured

Two explosions in the eastern part of Mosul have left tens dead, injuring many more.

According to local news agencies, around 6:30pm local time a suicide bomber targeted a popular restaurant in the east of the city recently taken back by the Iraqi army from the Islamic State (IS) group. A car bomb was also detonated in a square near the restaurant.

This is the first attack thought to be carried out by the Islamic State group after it relinquished control of the eastern half of Mosul.
