Clashes between the Turkish Armed Forces and Islamic State (IS) group are continuing on Thursday in and around al-Bab city in northern Syria, despite statements by Turkish officials that the end of the operation to take the stronghold was imminent.

Five Turkish soldiers have died since yesterday in clashes between IS militants, Turkish soldiers and Turkey-backed FSA group, the Turkish military has confirmed.

Clashes erupted in the Bza’a (Bzaah) village between the IS group and Turkish soldiers deployed around al-Bab on Wednesday, the 169th day of the Euphrates Shield operation.

The Turkish General Staff on Wednesday initially confirmed the death of two Turkish soldiers and 14 injured with 58 Islamic State (IS) militants “neutralised,” it said. The number of Turkish soldiers killed on Wednesday has now risen to five, a latest statement by the Turkish military has confirmed.
