At least 15 people have been killed in a bomb attack in northern Baghdad’s al-Sadr city, amid assaults targeting the Shia population of Iraq.

Al Jazeera reported that, a suicide bomber detonated a truck loaded with explosives in northern al-Sadr city of Baghdad on Wednesday, causing at least 15 deaths and 50 woundings according to Iraqi officials.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast, but nearly all suicide attacks in the city are claimed by the Islamic State (IS).

Iraqi government officials stated that the Islamic State (IS) is responsible for the attacks and that the group has been seeking to compensate the losses it has suffered on the battlefield.

The Iraqi military and its allies have managed to retake the eastern neighbourhoods of Mosul from IS and the battle continues for the remaining parts of the city on the western edges of the Tigris River.
