People of Manbij celebrate Newroz

The Kurdish, Arabic, Turkmen, Armenian and Chechen people of Manbij are celebrating Newroz in the town that was liberated from Islamic State (IS) only last year.

‘Happy Newroz’ placards written in several languages decorated the area where the celebrations are being held.

The town has recently been at the centre of a diplomatic and military tangle with several forces including the American, Russian, Turkish and Syrian armies converging around the town.

Newroz is celebrated by many peoples in the region with some seeing it as the arrival of spring and others a day of resistance and resurrection.
