Kimberly Taylor: first British woman to join fight against IS in Syria

Kimberly (Kimmie) Taylor, a 27-year-old from Blackburn travelled to Rojava, northern Syria in March 2016 to document the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).

She was supposed to stay for only 10 days, but her experience so overwhelmed her that she ended up joining the YPJ.

After learning how to speak Kurdish and getting military training, Taylor, now known by her nom-de-guerre Zilan Dilber, is on the frontline in the fight to take Raqqa, the Islamic State’s (IS/ISIS/ISIL) in Syria.

Taylor says she is overjoyed to be involved in what she calls, a “woman’s revolution.”
